Import version 3 to version 4
NOTE: A similar procedure applies to all Version 2 and Version 3 programs when moving to a higher version. SC Probate Forms LS 4 is downwardly compatible with SC Probate Forms LS 3.6.x Cases and Forms. 3.6.x Cases can be IMPORTED into version 4. To Import a 3.6.x Case...
|
1. On the Main Screen of the program is
a Menu Item called SPECIALS.
In that Menu is an option called
Import SC Probate 3 to SC Probate 4.
Click that Menu Option.
2. An old style New Case Screen will open.
In that screen, click
FILE / IMPORT AN SC PROBATE LS 3 CASE.
3. A standard Browser will open...
Browse to the desired CASE FILE.
NOTE: Do not confuse the Case FOLDER
with the Case FILE. If the case is named
John Smith, you may see a Folder called
John Smith Probate Forms. This folder
contains the documents produced in the
case. The Case FILE will be named John
Smith.spd. In Windows, Folders are listed
before Files.
Select the File and click [OPEN].
NOTE: Because version 3.6.x allowed you to
store your case files anywhere you wish on
your hard drive or network, it isn't possible for
version 4 to know where your files are.

The Case will be imported. You will be
notified that some information does not line
up - for example:
In the old version, names were stored in a
single field. Now names are broken into
Name Parts - this makes tailoring
documents much nicer (instead of Dear John
R. Smith, the system can now create Dear
Mr. Smith).
You may need to adjust some of the entries.
ALSO NOTE: In the old version, YOUR File
Number was not stored. The new version
REQUIRES Your File number - so you will
have to enter it.
Step through the Fields on ALL TABS and
make any Import Corrections that you feel are
necessary.
When you feel good about the Import, click
[SAVE].

After an initial save process, the program will
try to import the Reps and Co-Reps from the
old case.
NOTE: With version 3.6.x, you could store
ONLY a Rep and Co-Rep. With version 4, you
can ASSOCIATE an unlimited number of
people to a case - Reps, Co-Reps, Spouse,
Relatives, Children, Doctors, and others.
After the Reps have been Imported, COPIES
of the Imported Case's documents will be
placed in the New Case's folder.
AFTER VERIFYING REPS AND CO-REPS,
SAVE THE CASE AGAIN (as in #4 above) SO
THAT THE REP and CO-REP INFORMATION
IS SAVED AS WELL.
NOTE that your old documents and forms will be imported to the new case, and they can be opened in the new
program. HOWEVER...
In the old program, math and formulae existed in the program itself. In version 4, formulae are stored in the
forms, rather than in the program. This allows you, the user, to create forms that perform math.
This means, however, if you open an OLD (version 3) form in the new program, NO MATH will be carried out -
the OLD Form does not have any formulae stored in it.
If you wish to recreate your form, note that the new program is a Multitasking program. You can OPEN the
original form, and start a NEW Form, and then COPY and PASTE information from the Old form to the New form.
When you get accustomed to this Import Process, it should take 1 minute or less to import a case.
The most efficient procedure would be to Import a case only when you need to. There is no need to Import cases
that are essentially closed.
NOTE: If you do not have the Import
Extension Module, this option will not appear.
